New elementary school preparedness program

April 16 '07: A new community-based elementary school preparedness program, developed by Symetra Financial and the National Brokerage Consortium with help from the Department of Homeland Security's National Office of Citizen Corps, will be launched with the goal of helping elementary school students, faculty and administrators a press release announced.
According to the press release, "Launching the 'Emergency Preparedness +' Program, the team of local Citizen Corps Council and representatives from Symetra and NBC will facilitate educational forums on emergency preparedness in the classroom, by engaging the third grade students and their families and discussions about preparing for emergency situations."72-hour preparedness kits, including water, food, hygiene, first aid supplies, a thermal blanket and light sticks, will be distributed to the participants at the schools. Symetra, an asset management consortium of financial companies partnered with NBC, a network of insurance marketing agencies to work with the "National Office of Citizen Corps and its local Citizen Corps Councils across the country [to] assist teachers, students and their families to become better aware and prepared to handle emergency situations."
