April 19 '07: California National Guard troops and Los Angeles first responders are participating in a major emergency response exercise code named "Operation Vector", the Los Angeles Times reported. The three-day training exercise will include "a Hollywood-style convergence of" and earthquake coupled with a bioterror attack.
The goal of the operation is to see how well the Guard and local responders can communicate and cooperate, officials told the LA Times. The exercise will be held at the Museum of Tolerance and at the Veterans Affairs campus located in West Hollywood.A ABC affiliate reported that LAPD "hazmat tram simulated what would be their first steps if they got a call regarding a foul odor inside the museum. They put on gloves and masks, and then once inside the museum, they find four victims." Simultaneously, National Guard troops search the building while an improvised explosive device (IED) is detonated at the VA hospital. The Associated Press reported that those involved in Operation Vector included California, Colorado and Nevada National Guards as well as FBI hazardous materials agents, and Los Angeles police, representatives from the Sheriff's Department and the LA County Coroner's office.
