August 9 '07: A partnership between King Soopers Groceries, City Market Food Stores, El Dorado Spring Water, Health One and Denver area Hospitals, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will launch a state-wide competition based on a reality-TV format to put residents in a house to see which ones would be able to survive a disaster. The program is called "What If Colorado". The winner of the competition will receive $2,500. Organizers said they hope the competition will raise disaster preparedness and response awareness.
Ground Floor Media posted on their blog the news of the event."The What If? campaign ... which will leverage local events throughout the state to help spread the worl about emergency preparedness and pandemic influenza." A video announcing the program previews several of the contestants who tell the camera which items they think would be the most effective to keep them safe and prepared. One woman said her purse, another man said his blackberry, and yet another girl mentions her iPod. To coincide with the campaign, all 140 King Soopers and City Market stores will carry special complete home emergency preparedness kits. Additionally, each week at the stores, certain specialty items will be put on sale to highlight their importance during an emergency. Click here to watch the video:
