New preparedness guide in New York targeting kids' preparedness

November 1 '07: According to Government Technology, a new set of two multi-language preparedness guides in New York are working to elevate the level of children's preparedness in the city through a partnership between New York's local government organizations and the city's department of education, a press release read.
"Throughout the month of November, Ready New York for Kids will be distributed to all 1.1 million New York City public school students," GovTech reported. "One guide is designed for elementary school children, the other targets students in middle and high schools. ... Public school teachers will be provided with ideas for preparedness-related lessons and classroom discussions."The two guides will be available in nine languages including Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Urdu, English, Russian and Korean, among others. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said, "two fun-filled, interactive versions of the guide - so both younger and older students can make sure that no matter what kind of emergency strikes the City, they will be as prepared as possible." The two guides' partnership includes the Office of Emergency Management for New York City, the Department of Education while funding for the project was provided by AIG.
