Harvard hosts emergency evacuation webcast

March 5, 2008: The Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University will be hosting an online emergency evacuation seminar with a focus on major cities in the country March 5. At the webinar will be several emergency managers - the event will be moderated by the Kennedy School's Program on Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Management.
The webinar is free and it will focus on the public and private partnerships to "ensure that the economically disadvantaged, ethnic minorities, the elderly, and people with disabilities are not excluded," when regional and local officials are developing evacuation plans. Participants will be allowed to participate in the question and answer session immediately following the presentation.Executive Director for the Taubman Center for State and Local Government & Codirector of the Program on Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Management Arn Howitt will be leading the discussion. The emergency and crisis management program focuses on research and training activities "to improve readiness and response to such major physical threats to society," as tsunamis, tornados, earthquakes, pandemics and technology failures (airline and auto crashes).
